I am Director of Research at the CNRS.
I am Research Director at the Laboratoire Parole et Langage, one of the most important labs in
France working on interdisciplinary studies of speech and language production and perception.
The LPL members are linguists, psycholinguists, computer scientists, neuroscientists and doctors.
Since 2012, I am Director of the cluster of excellence Brain and Language Research Institute . The BLRI gathers 6 major research units in linguistics (LPL), psychology (LPC), neurosciences (IBD, LNC) and computer science (LIF, LIA).
My scientific interests center on natural language processing and formal linguistics.
I am working on the development of a new constraint-based theory, Property Grammars,
making it possible to represent all kind of information by means of constraints. One of its
interests lies in the fact that it allows the representation of any kind of linguistic
information (prosody, syntax, pragmatics, etc.) whithin a unique homogenous framework,
implemented as a constraint system. As a consequence, I am interested in exploring the
question of the interaction between the different linguistic domains, in particular in
the perspective of multimodal interaction. Practically, I have developped several parsers
exploiting this approach.
